The Improvise Brooch – Black Edition, in 925 silver and ebony
One of the two signature pieces from the All That Jazz collection, the Improvise brooch transforms the very idea of musical improvisation into a sculptural object.
Handcrafted from 925 silver and ebony, the piece does not reproduce a specific instrument. Instead, it fragments and recomposes familiar elements from the world of music: a piano keyboard, instrument strings, the curved silhouette of a soundboard. The forms meet in an imaginary instrument, impossible to name – just as an improvisation starts from a known vocabulary to create something that didn’t exist before.
Ebony brings depth and warmth to the composition, contrasting with the luminous silver. Engraved black lines visually extend the dark grain of the wood, while the keys, strings, and metallic contours build a strong graphic rhythm. The small silver detail inserted into the ebony suggests the ornament of a soundboard and accentuates the brooch’s character as an imaginary instrument.
The asymmetrical shape and overlapping elements give it a sense of movement: nothing seems completely predictable, yet everything belongs to the same composition.
